Design Guideline

Admiral Island is a unique coastal residential island development within the Port Owen Marina. A design review panel (DRP) has been appointed by the Home Owner's Association (HOA) to develop, guide and monitor the project aesthetics. The purpose of the guidelines is not to restrict but to serve as a protective mechanism ensuring a coherent identity for the development as a whole. To this aim some building elements will be controlled. The Control Elements are amongst other things; the building envelope, development density, the use of materials; proportion and colour of built form and the proportion and colour of building elements.
The guideline outlines the character of architecture to be one of restraint, clean and uncluttered surfaces, and simple rectangular or composite rectangular plan forms as derived from Early Cape Colonial Architecture.
The concept however also allows for and encourages :
* The use of 'Maritime' elements e.g. balustrading, decks and pergolas
* The use of rustic local materials e.g. stone
